1. History And Significance Of The Srisailam

Srisailam is located in the Nallamala hills in the Kurnool district. It is the home to the self-manifested Jyotirlingas and the deities are Mallikarjuna Swamy, a form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Bhramaramba, one of the Mahashaktis. This is also one of the Shakti Peeth where the neck of the Sati feel when the body of Sati was cut by Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan chakra.

It is said that the Parvatha, was a son of a sage who did penance at this place and asked for a boon for Lord Shiva to live on its top permanently. He also asked for all the sacred water from rivers to be a part of this place. He then assumed the shape of a Hill which is now called Srisailam. It is said that anybody who visits this temple regardless of their cast or creed attains salvation.

This is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas where the Shiva Linga is self-manifested. This place is also known as the Kailash of South India because it has sacred waters and is anointed with boons from Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Popular Tourist Spot For Srisailam Trip Bhramarambha Temple

Within the temple complex of the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple is this temple of Goddess Bhramaramba and is a Shakti Peetha. Goddess had assumed the form of a bee and resided in this temple to kill a demon. There is an interesting story behind the existence of this temple.

You can visit the Srisailam Dam on the same day as it is closer to the temple. The dam is surrounded by lush green and scenic landscape and is a place for taking pictures and looking at the view of the water gushing out of the dam.

This is one of the most sacred and ancient temples that is located closer to the Mallikarjuna temple. It has the idol of Lord Ganapathi holding the book and making a note of the names of the devotees who visit him. It is said that the idol makes note of the devotees who visit him inside this temple.

This is one of the trekking places near Srisailam. It is located closer to the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple and is sacred as it has the backwaters from the holy River Krishna. It has the backdrop of the hills and is a place where the devotees take a holy dip. You can also go boating at this water reservoir and reach the next destination which is the Akka Mahadevi Caves which can only be reached by boat.

The Akka Mahadevi Caves Srisailam have naturally formed caves. This is also a place to go trekking and explore these caves with a torch as it is very dark inside. The arches of these caves stand without any support and is a feature of this cave that you can marvel about. Deep inside this cave is a naturally formed Shiv Linga which the ascetic by the name Akka Mahadevi had worshipped.

Get a glimpse of the wildlife and nature inside this forest. There is also a tiger reserve inside this forest. You can spend the whole day if you want or simply a few hours to get a closer view of the wildlife. You can take a jeep safari and visit the ancient temples of Veerabhadra Swamy and Ganapathi temple inside this forest. You can also trek through the deep valleys and gorges within this jungle.

Sightseeing On Srisailam Trip Hatakeswaram

This is an ancient shrine that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located 5 km from Srisailam. As per the legend, Lord Shiva appeared inside the pot of a potter and a stone structure is built around this shrine. Hatha yoga is also taught at this place.

Srisailam Trip Tourist Places Phaladhara Panchadhara

This is one of the most scenic spots to visit 5 km from Srisailam. The streams of water that flow in this area has musical sounds. It is said that Adisankara performed penance here and this place has statues of Sarada Devi and Shankaracharya.

These are one of the most sacred caves. It is believed that Lord Dattatreya spend his time at these caves. These caves have a natural rock formation and are a place that you can visit to get the scenic view of the waterfalls.

Srisailam Trip Tourist Spot Mallela Theertham

These are waterfalls near Srisailam that you can visit and spend a few hours or an entire day here. These waterfalls are located inside the Nallamala forest. The rock formations from which the waterfalls is in the form of Shiva Linga. It forms a pool below and is also a picnic spot for family and kids to have fun. This place is sacred as many sages are said to have performed penance at this place.
