1. Ramappa Temple UNESCO

This site has been submitted to UNESCO to be listed in the heritage sites and is yet to get the title. Ramappa temple is an 800-year-old temple from the Kakatiya Dynasty that is a popular tourist location when you visit Warangal tourism.

2. Ramappa Temple History

The Ramappa temple history was, it was built in the 12th century by King Kakati Ganapathi Deva. It has a deity, Ramalingeswara Swamy. Ramappa was the designer and architect of this temple and this is the only temple that is in the name of the architect. It took 40 years for Ramappa to build this temple. It was built during the Kakatiya regime and was built in black granite and red sandstones. Ramaapa temple is dedicated to a form of Lord Shiva and is a Shivalaya.

The walls and ceilings have erotic sculptures carved into them. It is surrounded by a lush green garden. It has a Maha Mandapa, a Garbhagriha, and Antarala, many columns, and pillars. Ceilings also contain carvings from the Ramayana. Within the temple, there are shrines of many gods and goddesses.

There is a Nandi mandapam inside the temple in front of the shrine of Lord Shiva. Inside this shrine, there are many carvings on the walls that showcase various dance forms and different musical instruments. Scenes from Shiva Purana and other ancient sacred Hindu texts are carved on the walls of this shrine.

One of the unique aspects of this temple is that the bricks that are used to build this temple float in water instead of sinking. Each and every pillar inside the temple have carvings that depict the story from mythology.

There are sculptures on the walls and pillars of this temple. Yet another unique aspect of this temple is that if you hit any of the pillars inside the temple you will hear musical sounds. It is said that the carvings of dance forms on this temple have helped revive many dance forms.

There are elephant sculptures surrounding the outer walls of the temple and each of this elephant is shown performing various activities. Events are organized inside this temple during Mahashivaratri. This temple is the most magnificent specimen of medieval architecture in Indian history.

The Ramappa temple is open from 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs. It is open on all days and there is no entry fee to visit Ramappa temple.

4. How to reach Ramappa Temple

This temple is located at 67 km from Warangal in the state of Telangana in the Palampet Village. You can reach Warangal from Hyderabad. The distance from Warangal and Hyderabad is 160 km. You can also reach Warangal from Hanumakonda. From Warangal, you can take public transportation to reach the temple. You can also hire a private taxi from Hyderabad or Warangal to reach this temple.
