Cooch Behar Palace

Cooch Behar Palace was built in the design and architecture of Buckingham Palace in U.K. It is also known as the Victor Jubilee Palace. It was built in the 18th century by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan who belonged to the Koch Dynasty that ruled this place. This is a magnificent palace which has gardens, verandas, halls, rooms, galleries, vestibules, and a museum. The architectural style of the palace has been inspired by the Italian Renaissance style of Rome as well. In Cooch Behar tourism you must visit this places. The Cooch Behar Palace is also known as Rajbari.

First King Of Cooch Behar

The Koch Dynasty came to rule Cooch Behar in the 15th century. The first king of the Koch Dynasty was King Vishwa Singha. He belonged to the tribal groups in Assam and did not have any predecessor. He formed the Koch Dynasty and ruled it till 1540. Later, in the coming years, his sons and successors ruled this part of West Bengal. He defeated the other tribal groups and started his dynasty in the year 1515.

Last King Of Cooch Behar

Jagaddipendra Narayan was the last king of the Cooch Behar who also participated in the World War II. He was the son of Jitendra Narayan and a brother of Rani Gayatri Devi who was married to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur. At the age of seven, he became the ruler of Cooch Behar after the death of his father. He married twice and did not have any children through his marriage.

Maharaja Nripendra Narayan built the Madan Mohan temple in the 18th century. It houses the deities of Lord Madan Mohan, an avatar of Lord Krishna, goddess Tara, Goddess Bhavani, and goddess Kali. During festivals pujas are conducted as per the rituals and fairs are organized outside the temple.

Summers are very hot in Cooch Behar and run between March and August. Rainfalls are heavy and run between the months July and October. The best time to visit Cooch Behar is in the winter season between the months December and February as the weather is pleasant and ideal for touring.
